The Birth of Christ Within, an Exploration in Art, a seasonal lecture by Andrew Linnell,

Steiner surprised his audience when he first began to speak about the births of Jesus in the gospels of Matthew and Luke as different boys. Since that time, several researchers have determined that esoteric groups from before Christ expected Two Messiahs. This talk will draw from a number of Renaissance painters and it is open to the public. We will explore this research and what it means especially as a Christmas theme.

Anthroposophical Meditation, the First Class, and the Sections of the School For Spiritual Science

Meditation has become mainstream. It has been shown to be efficacious in healing. Famous athletes and CEOs practice meditation. This gathering is intended for those wishing to inquire about the nature of Anthroposophical meditation and its School for Spiritual Science. Interested attendees can find answers to questions about the Sections and the Class Lessons. While constructed for members and friends of the Anthroposophical Society, Waldorf parents and others are most welcome.

Attaining Imagination and the Life of Owen Barfield

Attaining Imagination and the Life of Owen Barfield with Luigi Morelli 7-9 pm, Waldorf High School of MA Bay, 160 Lexington St. Belmont. Barfield made the content of anthroposophy so thoroughly his own that he could recreate it in his soul and indicate to his contemporaries the way to the attainment of Imagination. This offers each human being a new relationship to knowledge, to the Cosmic Christ, and for a new place in the world. His early literary imaginations point the way to the whole of his literary estate. Barfield shows us how Imagination has been reached in a single individual, Barfield himself, through his most autobiographical books, This Ever Diverse Pair, Unancestral Voice, and Worlds Apart.

Luigi Morelli has had a long experience of working with the disabled in intentional communities like Camphill and L’Arche International or in the mainstream. He has written several books including Spiritual Turning Points of North American History, and a twin volume concerning South America. Most recently he published the two books Karl Julius Schröer and Rudolf Steiner: Anthroposophy and the Teachings of Karma plus Reincarnation and Aristotelians and Platonists: A Convergence of the Michaelic Streams in Our Time.

Luigi will be speaking at the Christian Community on Sat and Sun Oct. 5 and 6 about Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. Contact Lisa Hildreth for those events.

Meeting the Challenge of Artificial Intelligence

The time of complacency about the future is over. Egoism whispers: let someone else sacrifice to fix the future. Transhumanism expects some will escape this obligation by uploading their soul into the “cloud” where they will co-exist with our creation, Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI). Must we become co-creators or can we escape responsibility? Nicanor Perlas makes an urgent plea: we must take immediate steps to ensure technology aligns with goals of human evolution.

We are thrilled to have such a world leader as Nicanor Perlas come to Boston for this event. He is an adviser, global activist, writer, and speaker on artificial intelligence, globalization, and the sciences. He is a member of the Phillipine Senate Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. For the global impact of his work, he has received the Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize), the Outstanding Filipino Award, and UNEP’S Global 500 Award. He has advised UN agencies, the Office of the Philippine President and Congress, as well as cities and towns undertaking large-scale social threefolding projects. He has headed global and national civil society networks responsible for reassessing and stopping twelve nuclear power plants, banning thirty-two pesticide formulations, and bringing about mainstream sustainable development, including organic farming in the Philippines.

Our Hearts and Minds

Our Hearts and Minds:  Reclaiming the Soul of Science and Medicine

With author Walter Alexander

“Walter’s history as a medical journalist prepared him to be a fun and an engaging speaker, full of authentic stories that poignantly reveal the abyss we’ve fallen into.”

Waldorf School of Lexington, 739 Mass Ave. Lexington

Sponsored by the Anthroposophical Society in Greater Boston       https://www.anthroposophyboston.org/

Friday, May 17, 7:30 – 9 pm

$15 suggested (students $5, seniors $10) or any donation appreciated

Our scientific-medical-economic culture is stalled at a series of impasses. Medical research is funneled toward blockbuster drugs often with marginal benefits at astronomical costs. Patients and doctors burn out in 6-minute visits. Orthodox biology and neuroscience are stuck in machine-models, and consciousness is seen as an irrelevant artifact. Those who attempt to attribute purpose or meaning to existence are attacked and often punished. How did we get here? Is there a way out?

Hearts and Minds (reclaiming the soul of science and medicine) shows how the human element, despite mighty attempts to expunge it from scientific/medical understanding, is elbowing its way back into the picture through discoveries in, medicine, biology, and quantum physics– and through new philosophical/spiritual understanding.

In this lecture, Hearts and Minds author Walter Alexander describes the roads leading past our present roadblocks to a science and medicine that are both rigorous and humanly inclusive.

Near Death Experience: Offering Insights into Mind, Consciousness, and Reality

Based on evidence from NDEs, we present two major hypotheses: (1) the Mind-Entity Hypothesis, that the mind is an autonomous non-material aspect of a person that separates from the physical body during an NDE; and (2) the Transcendent Realm Hypothesis, that (a) reality consists of the physical realm plus a more fundamental “transcendent realm” which is actually a 5th dimension of reality; (b) all experiences in life are recorded in a “Book of World Memory” that is part of the fabric of reality; (c) one has free will in one’s actions; and (d) there is a plan and purpose for one’s life.

The following presentations are suggested as preparatory material:
